The Hatter

Known by several names this versions original is actually called Heart no Kuni no Alice

This is the first manga of Alice in Wonderland that I have become familiar with.
I was quite impressed at the imagination and originality.

If you thought the original was violent HA!

However the plot is intriguing and the characters very entertaining.

The March Hare "Elliot"

First of all the whole plot takes place in a kind of "Game" where all the characters are at war.

I'm not going to give away too much of the plot but I'll give you a little bit of info.

Basically the characters are quite different from the original.

The Cheshire Cat "Boris"

Alice is a feisty teen who has had her heart broken, The Queen of Hearts is not quite so nasty to my mind, The Cheshire Cat is a punk with pink hair, the Tweedles have an obsession with weapons and killing...

As you can tell already it isn't your usual Alice story!

I found that things got more and more complex as I continued to read

What about the Hatter?" I hear you say.

Well I'll tell you! He is a gangster! That right he is the leader of a mean group of hardened gang members.

His name? Blood Dupre. Cool huh?

He still has tea parties and enjoys his hat though he isn't quite mad.

Just very very touchy and bad tempered.

Of course that may change in time.

His gang includes the Tweedles who are cute but formidable, The Cheshire Cat who is called "Boris" here and "Elliot" the March Hare.

He apparently looks like Alice's love interest in the real world.

There is also a mystery involving him and the Queen of Hearts but I'm not spoiling anything :)

There are new characters as well such as Julius who mends clocks, Ace who is very absent minded at first glance but there are undercurrents of something much darker and much more dangerous and most importantly the faceless servants and characters whose role becomes clearer as you read further in the books.
